A Great Weekend Empty A Great Weekend

Post  Thunder Fri May 29, 2009 3:41 am

Just to say how much I enjoyed the weekend. I am from a re-enactment background and have been trading at LARP events for around 3 years but haven't been able to play due to trading commitments. This event allowed reenactors and LARPers to achieve a much-needed cross-over and I'm sure that many ideas for rules "tweaks" will be put forward by people who attended. I also heard a number of my LARP colleagues saying how much fun it was and that the atmosphere was similar to how LARP events used to be, which was a good thing.
I for one feel that the free-form flow of the weekend needs to be kept to make it enjoyable for attendees. The great thing about it is that as it does not have characters "progressing" to different levels, then all players can participate on a par with each other. You will not get the Reenactors being that interested in progressing characters and also the "levelling up" syndrome comes into effect in that characters tend to become more careful as they don't want their character to "die". The fun about this event is that it doesn't matter if you die - you do your stint in the militia and then re-spawn as pirate and carry on. Plus, Unlike other systems, you aren't forced to join another faction after you die, which is good for morale.
Yes, I feel that some of the rules could be clarified and adjustments made in them as a result of experiences over the past weekend, but that is what will make a good idea into a great system. Remember, this is a cross-over event and so all players need to be catered for and for it not to end up as a pure LARP event. The idea behind the event is new and so we must all make adjustments in our ways of thinking about how we are used to working/playing in our own genres so that everyone continues to have a great time.
I for one will be pushing it to my own reenacting colleagues and letting them know what they missed out on.
Again, Thank You to Martin, Mark and crew for making the event what it was, and may there be many more to come.

Hassan's (HUGS)
Can I make it clear to all who missed out on BBB, they missed out on the most fun I have had in a LARP event ever.
To all who were there thank you, from myself and all the Barbary corisairs (crazy turkish pirates).
We know we would be the butt of all jokes and blamed for everything, still most crime we were guilty included:
Great gate coin heist, The miltia tent heist, Casino robbery, Mortsroom hunts, jail break, control of town and scams of public coins.

The Judge was excellent and found that every time we were brought forward to him, giant lobster attacked, so he was nervous of us.

Being invited to help with the tunnel linear was great, the cult of the crustaetions
I would like to thank Martin and his hard working team for an super, event and see you all in Sept.
Hugs
PS Purple sash rule!!!! Cool

Just to add further to what Hasan said. I was one of the only suriving members of the Barbary Corsairs and i can honestly say i prefer this event to LT. Thank you to Martin and others for there amazing hospitality and the organisation was amazing for a first event even though they had a lot of people let them down.

I/We (Barbary Corsairs) Had a fantastic time and tried to do as much as we can to make peoples life hell but in a good way I/C. I love the fact that we got blamed for eveything that was the whole idea of the weekend as we knew we would stand out as turkish pirates 1)coz we had the buggy captained by Pirate Duck and 2)coz my wife has a strange obsession with a dodgy russain accent and running around with a whip and fake militia jacket on 3) whilst wearing the fake militia jacket my wife managed to steal there gold from under the mililtias noses. How she managed it was amazing.
Also Hasan who wasn't our captain manages always to die first no matter what system he plays.

The only thing i would like would be independant refs who can call hits to make it more fair.

I love the fact that there are no character progressions . this makes it a fairer system as everyone is equal.
I feel that the Judge should be allowed to die and probably play as I/C and not NPC. as during the event if the judge dies a new one could be appointed. Just imaging my wife or any of the barbary corsairs as judges. i think it would be chaotic.

Thank you all again for a wonderful weekend really looking forward to september.

Long Live Purple Sashes we will be back as Pink sashes and we will make everyones weekend in september more memorable.

P.S My Wife also makes good lobster food

To be honest, I was initially doubtful about taking part as I've never been involved with LARP (although 1st-person LH can be pretty similar), but all doubts seemd to have disappeared early on Friday evening, and I had a whale (or mayhap a giant lobster) of a time and the next one is in the diary as a "must do".
Many thanks to everyone involved.

A Great Weekend Empty Bandits Brigands & Buccaneers 2 – 25th to 27th September is open for player registrations

Post  Cap'n Mancer Sun Jun 14, 2009 3:58 am

The first was, we’re informed, a great success the second will be much improved.

The second enactment game will include group procurement contracts for contraband, promoting more smuggling, trading and racketeering. Treasure hunts, shipwrecks and other competitive elements – including mayoral election (vote rigging) – plus a “squalors” living history encampment will feed into this. And if you thought the giant lobster henchmen were good well you ain’t seen big-bad yet….

The Scurvy Scum website is being updated but is open for new registrations.
There are loyalty, militia, robber/bandit, early registration, and the introduction of new player discounts available. Plus other discounts for Marshalling and on weapons for new players.

Register/Book-up now
